Nasturtium 'Alaska'

$6.00

The ‘Alaska’ mix is interesting because it has the classic colors included in the ‘Whirlybird’ mix, but also variegated leaves! Similarly, it climbs readily up trellises or drapes from containers. I grew this nasturtium mix in college, and enjoyed it so much that I’m bringing it back. Mix it with other nasturtiums in planters for an interesting variation in flowers and foliage.

A Note from the Grower

A good old-fashioned plant, nasturtium is a fantastic bloomer! Hummingbirds and bees delight in the bright blooms. Nasturtium flowers are edible for people as well and provide a sweet, peppery taste that varies by flower color. Add nasturtium petals into a softened butter to create colorful butter pats to enjoy on a crusty piece of bread or a light sandwich. Did I mention that nasturtium has great vase life? For all you cut flower lovers, it is a must-have! Bring the outdoors in.

It is important to plant nasturtiums on the east or in an area that receives cool, morning light. Depending on the variety you select, nasturtium either vines or bushes. Whirlybird, Yeti, and Alaska are vining plants, and Baby Rose and Peach Melba are more on the bushy side. For care information, head to the Plant Guide.
