Russian Tarragon

$5.00

Add Russian tarragon to your herb palette with me this year. Unlike French tarragon, this species of Artemisia has a much milder anise flavor. Use the leaves fresh in dishes like cream of potato soup or as a cut greenery in a vase. You know me! I love bringing outdoors in. This plant is tall and drought tolerant, so it works well to use as a perennial in the background of your garden.

I used the straight species’ seed. I actually don’t think anyone has done major breeding work with Russian tarragon. No need! It does just fine on its own. It’s a tough cookie, that’s for sure!

A Note from the Grower

Russian tarragon is an interesting herb. Most people, when they think of tarragon, are probably thinking of the French cousin of Russian tarragon, Artemisia dracunculus sativa. Russian tarragon (a.k.a. Artemisia dracunculoides) is a little different. With a more mild anise flavor than French tarragon, it’s better suited to those who don’t like the potent spice of the French cousin or have climates that get too hot. It also grows taller—much taller! Place this plant in a corner of the garden behind your shorter herbs for a low maintenance back drop. Read more about its care in the Plant Guide!
