Wild bergamot has many names including bee balm and monarda. It is a perennial pollinator garden favorite and flowers heavily in the spring (most commonly reaching flower in its second year). But, it is also an edible flower! Wild bergamot has a fresh, mild citrus flavor and can be used in teas.

Height & Spread: ~2-4’ (treat like mint at planting as it spreads rapidly beyond 24” via stolons underground)

A Note from the Grower

Bee balm has many uses, and I love plants with beauty and function! As mentioned, it is a pollinator magnet. It is also excellent when incorporated in teas or garnishing desserts. AND, like all edible flowers, you can also enjoy its ornamental value by cutting the blooms for a cut flower arrangement. Believe me, there will be plenty of blooms left for the bees…

Like its cousin mint, wild bergamot grows like a weed in ground! I suggest keeping it in a contained area, weeding aggressively when it escapes OR planting in containers if possible to retain its stoloniferous roots that will run every which direction and pop up in inconvenient places.
