Calendula 'Alpha'
Pre-order for local pick-up available as early as March 15.
Calendula, also known as pot marigold, has a bright and cheerful edible flower. ‘Alpha’ is a high resin calendula that grows taller than ‘Orange Flash’ and has a bloom reminiscent of gerbera daisies.
The petal flavor is unique to any other edible flowers on my roster and is best used in savory dishes. Like pansy, it prefers our early season temperatures, but can be held over the summer in part sun conditions.
Sold in 4-packs.
Height & Spread: ~24-30”

A Note from the Grower
Sometimes called “poor man’s saffron” calendula is an excellent addition to soups, stews, salads and rice dishes. But, if the flavor doesn’t suit you, you can be satisfied with its honey-like scent (completely different than its taste). The blooms can be cut for flower arrangements or enjoyed ornamentally on your front porch!
Like borage and pansy, calendula thrives best in our transitional seasons of spring and fall. Consider planting in an area of your yard (or porch) with morning sunlight to avoid the scorching heat of our afternoon sun in late summer. Learn more about borage in the Plant Guide.
